Programs

In this section, you'll find information about WHY's programs and initiatives that help WHY achieve its goal of:

  • Promoting and supporting grassroots organizations and networks
  • Identifying and promoting innovative public policies
  • Educating the general public and sharing information and resources
  • Building a grassroots community of effective local organizations; a national clearinghouse of resources; and a media and public policy network.

WHY strives to achieve these goals by:

  • Strengthening grassroots organizations across the country with resources and networking opportunities through the Grassroots Action Network
  • Linking WHY's domestic work to broader global movements for food sovereignty and basic rights through the Global Movements Program.
  • Building just, sustainable food systems through the Food Security Learning Center
  • Collecting and distributing information about community-based resources and government programs that address the immediate and long-term needs of struggling families and individuals through the USDA National Hunger Clearinghouse and Hotline.
  • Connecting Artists with grassroots organizations to raise funds and awareness in communities across the country through the Artist Against Hunger and Poverty Program
  • Fundraising for WHY's programs and informing the general public about hunger and poverty issues through WHY's annual Hungerthon

  • Through these programs and initiatives, WHY promotes the basic right to food in the US and around the world, and advances model programs that create self-reliance, economic justice, and equitable access to nutritious and affordable food.
