$821K Raised to Fight Hunger in WhyHunger’s Hungerthon

hungerthon New York, NY (Dec. 22, 2014) – WhyHunger’s annual Hungerthon campaign raised $821,324 this year for the fight against hunger and poverty.  Together with partners SiriusXM and CBS Radio Group, the money was raised through the combined efforts of a national radiothon and online auction that featured one-of-a-kind donations of memorabilia and experiences with a-level musicians, celebrities and athletes. “For 29 years we’ve been honored to partner with leaders of the radio industry, listeners and artists to raise awareness and funds to support grassroots-led, sustainable solutions to hunger,” said Bill Ayres, WhyHunger co-founder and executive director. “This year we were overwhelmed by support with a record number of on-air interviews, innovative live events and continued donations from folks who share in our belief that nutritious food is a human right and that together we can build a world without hunger.“ Donations are accepted year round by calling 1-212-629-8850. If you know someone who is hungry, call the WhyHunger Hotline at 1 (800) 5-HUNGRY or visit Find Food (/findfood) to help them locate a local emergency food provider and other support services.
