Hungerthon Raises $1 Million

WhyHunger announced today that its annual Hungerthon campaign raised over $1 million for the third year in a row. Funds raised through Hungerthon support innovative community-based solutions to hunger in America, ensuring everyone has access to nutritious food and can build a future free from hunger and food insecurity.

“With its roots in radio, Hungerthon remains a Thanksgiving tradition that has evolved into a multi-channel event like no other.  It is a testament to the power of the collective to band together around the shared belief that access to nutritious food is a basic human right and to be able to raise over $1 million to support grassroots solutions that address hunger and social injustice at its roots,” said Noreen Springstead, Executive Director, WhyHunger.

Held annually during the holiday season, the fundraiser brings together radio partners at Entercom New York, SiriusXM and Cumulus New York, as well as celebrity supporters including Bruce Springsteen, Yoko Ono, Tom Morello, Jason Mraz and Graham Nash to raise awareness about hunger and poverty, while engaging the public through radio broadcasts, merchandise, social media and an extensive celebrity-driven online auction.

Highlights from this year include:

  • The SiriusXM online auction drove record-breaking funds through guest DJ packages and experiences with its many channels like, The Beatles Channel, The Hoda Show on Today Show Radio, 1st Wave, Ron Bennington on Faction Talk, the Turbo Channel, 80s on 8, 70s on 7, and more.
  • Entercom “Live Hungerthon Radiothon Day” interviews with Graham Nash and Governor Phil Murphy on New York stations WFAN (WFAN-AM/ FM) and WCBS 880 (WCBS-AM).
  • Engaged over a thousand individual donors via our Live Hungerthon Radiothon Day on November 20th, driven by Entercom stations WFAN (WFAN-AM/ FM), WCBS 880 (WCBS-AM), WCBS-FM 101.1 (WCBS-FM), 1010 WINS (WINS-AM), ALT 92.3 (WNYL-FM) and NEW 102.7 FM (WNEW-FM) in New York, and Cumulus New York stations: 95.5 WPLJ, Radio 103.9, 94.7 NASH-FM, 77 WABC.
