Spread the Word! Summer Meals are in Full Swing

summer mealsThe USDA’s Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) fills the gap for millions of low-income children who receive free or reduced in-school meal programs during the school year.  The program provides free, nutritious summer meals for kids at local organizations, like schools, recreation centers, playgrounds, parks, churches, summer camps and more, all over the country – all summer long.

WhyHunger is partnering with the USDA to ensure that more children and their families learn about summer meals in their neighborhoods and have access to free, nutritious food during the summer months, but we need your help to spread the word!

Families in need can call our National Hunger Hotline at 1-866-3 HUNGRY (1-866-348-6479) or 1-877-8 HAMBRE (1-877-842-6273) to be connected with a summer feeding site in their community, or text “food” to 877-877. The hotline is available Monday through Friday from 9:00am EDT to 6:00pm EDT.  You can also download a free mobile app called Range to access a database and maps of summer feeding sites. To access our directory of summer feeding sites online, visit whyhunger.org/findfood.

Want to get more families connected to these great resources? Help us  spread the word:

  • Download and print any of our Summer Food Service Program flyers to distribute at your local community centers, schools and libraries
  • Add a banner to your blog, social media pages, or website
  • Ask your local radio station to play a free Public Service Announcement about the Summer Food Service Program

You can download these materials and more at whyhunger.org/outreach.
