JOHN CAPE
John Cape is an executive leader with a passion for developing people, partnerships and programs that advance transformative social change. He has deep expertise in adult learning, community building and leadership development, and has coached and trained hundreds of leaders in the U.S. and Global South.
As Vice President of Program Strategy and Impact, John works with a talented team to strengthen food systems and realize food justice through partnerships with organizations, networks and movements around the world.
Before joining WhyHunger, John was the Chief Program Officer at Global Health Corps where he directed leadership development programs for emerging global health leaders in the USA, East and Southern Africa. He co-created the Global Justice Fellowship at American Jewish World Service, training grassroots leaders to advocate for U.S. policy changes to promote the rights of women and LGBTQI+ people in the Global South.
John began his career in youth development, leading backcountry programs for struggling adolescents with Outward Bound, facilitating teambuilding for young people from regions in conflict with Seeds of Peace, and teaching in Costa Rica with WorldTeach.
He has served on the advisory boards and steering committees for various organizations working to advance progressive systems change including Talent for Good, WomenLift Health, Impact Fellowships Summit, the Women Leaders in Global Health Conference, and Theatre of the Oppressed NYC.
John is a graduate of Cornell University, with a degree in government and religious studies.
He lives in New Jersey with his wife and three children. He is a novice gardener and is learning a lot from his more accomplished colleagues on how to properly harvest tomatoes and battle bunnies.
