WhyHunger maintains the highest level of respect for the privacy of its donors. In furtherance of our commitment to honor your rights, we have developed this Donor Privacy Policy to guide our staff on how they may and may not use your personal information. WhyHunger collects and uses various personal information from donors including: name, amount donated, address, telephone number, donor comments and e-mail address. Tax laws in the United States and the State of New York require WhyHunger to keep contact information and contribution level of donors on file.

WhyHunger will never sell, trade, rent or share names, e-mail or mailing addresses, or telephone numbers of our donors. WhyHunger will use donor contact information (e-mail, telephone number and address) for the following purposes only:

  • Distribution of receipts for donations
  • Thanking donors for their donation
  • Informing donors about upcoming fundraising initiatives and other activities of WhyHunger
  • Internal analysis and record keeping
  • Reporting to relevant U.S. and State agencies

Financial information

All access to donor financial information is strictly limited to professional staff who need to process those data. No such data are given to any person, organization or group who does not need to access those data.

WhyHunger only uses online payment processing services with world class security and strong reputations. WhyHunger does not store, nor does it have access to, your credit card information, bank account numbers, or other account data sent to those processing services.

Security

When you submit sensitive information via our website we take every precaution to make sure your information is protected both online and offline. Wherever we collect sensitive information (such as credit card data), that information is encrypted and transmitted in a secure way. You can verify that your transaction is secure by checking for the secure lock icon in the address bar and looking for "https" at the beginning of the address of the Web page.

The computers/servers in which we store personally identifiable information are managed through Black Baud services offsite and are PCI compliant.
