Hillary Zuckerberg, WhyHunger’s Director of Artists Against Hunger and Poverty, and I just got back from camp! Summer Camp, that is; we went to the 10th Annual Summer Camp Music Festival, a jam band festival in central Illinois headlined by WhyHunger partner moe.
We were part of the “Make a Difference” element of the festival, working with other non-profit groups such as Rock the Earth, and Conscious Alliance to educate fans about social activism around the country. Thanks to Chuck Garvey from moe. and banjo player Danny Barnes, who packed the house (tent) for us with their awesome songs, we did a workshop about hunger and food issues to an enthusiastic crowd. We also connected with some new (and very talented!) bands, including Backyard Tire Fire and Cornmeal; ate delicious local treats like Uncle Bob’s Homemade Ice Cream; and met some great folks from other groups, like our new friends in HeadCount. All in all, a fantastic festival — we’re looking forward to Summer Camp 2011!
Chuck Garvey of moe. and banjo player Danny Barnes warm up the crowd for WhyHuner’s workshop.
