WhyHunger partner The Campaign Against Hunger (TCAH) has transformed a small community effort into one of New York City’s most powerful forces for food justice. What started with Dr. Melony Samuels serving 50 families from a church basement in Bed-Stuy has become a lifeline for more than 2 million New Yorkers, delivering over 35 million nutritious meals since the start of the pandemic.
Driven by dignity, compassion, and respect, TCAH meets communities where they are — offering not only emergency food assistance, but also the tools and opportunities families need to thrive long-term. From vibrant urban farms providing fresh produce, to the Weekend Healthy Snack Program for children, to economic supports like tax prep and benefits access, every program builds toward stability, mobility, and lasting change.
For over a decade, WhyHunger has been proud to partner with TCAH through grants, volunteer support, and funding for collaboration spaces that strengthen the entire hunger-relief movement. Together, we share a vision: ending hunger through bold, community-led solutions rooted in justice and collective action.
