WhyHunger Launches Summer Meals Rock for Kids
-Leading Anti-Hunger Organization Connects Kids to Nutritious Meal Options-
-Bruno Mars Tickets Among Items Auctioned to Support Program-
New York (June 19, 2018) – When school lets out for the summer, millions of children across the country lose access to safe, healthy meals—and childhood hunger spikes. To combat this crisis and connect kids in need with free and nutritious meals all summer long, WhyHunger—a leader in building the movement to end hunger and poverty—is launching a Summer Meals Rock for Kids campaign.
“Summer is a particularly vulnerable time for food insecure children,” said Noreen Springstead, executive director, WhyHunger. “Millions of kids who rely on school meals struggle to get the nutritious food they need to learn and grow once school is out. Many families already struggling to make ends simply can’t afford it, and most don’t know about the programs offered through government assistance programs. It’s critical that we increase awareness and resources through Summer Meals Rock for Kids to keep children nourished today, while also staying focused on the long-term change needed to address the root causes of hunger and poverty so that everyone has the right to nutritious food.”
To help support the program, WhyHunger artist supporters donated items for auction via Charitybuzz with all proceeds going to Summer Meals Rock for Kids. Items available include:
- MartinX Series Little Martin Acoustic Guitar Signed by Brandi Carlile plus 2 Tickets to a US Headlining Show
- 2 Tickets to See Bruno Mars on October 4, 2018 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY plus a Poster Signed by Bruno
- Wisteria Limited Edition Giclee by Jerry Garcia
